I dare not take off this subtle mask,
for my very conscience will take me to task,
I would then have to wear my heart on my sleeve,
and for my many sweet memories thus to bitterly grieve!
Must I display my deep hurt, my natural face,
and become the propagator of my own disgrace?
let me be like the rest of humankind
and show many faces to appease my own mind!
You may guess my true nature from
the things that I write,
but can you really decipher the words
that I cite?
It's only when I lie in my coffin in funeral array,
then shall you see the real me, all masks torn away!
