YOUR OWN WORDS

The Curse of a Poetic Mind        Oct. 2016

PictureWendy Torres is a stay at home mom who loves to write. Most of her writing is inspired by daily life.
I want to sleep but I can't
Poetry keeps running around in my head
Many times I try to sleep
But instead...

Metaphors and similes
Keep presenting themselves to me
Trying to make themselves
My lifelong enemy

I want to sleep but I can't
Words keep hopping around in my mind
I wish I could just close my eyes
Leaving them all behind

They want me to write them down
Favourite pen in hand
All I want is to quickly drift off
Into my dream land

When I least expect it
They sneak up! They creep!
When I wish to rest
Robbing me of my sleep

So I sit up
Drowsily putting ink to paper
Willing my mind to stop creating
That'll never happen though...ever
